Cuttlebug Sketch Hour - I Weave, You Weave!

Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the Cuttlebug Sketch Hour!

My name is Lori Boyd.
I am a Design Team member here on the Cuttlebug Challenge Blog.

A few weeks ago, I was putting away a pile of Cardstock Scraps (I never throw scraps away).
I was thinking, there has to be something I can do with these long strips of Cardstock. Then, I remembered a fun little craft project my class had done way back when I was in elementary school. Weaved Place mats! Remember, those? I am sure we all have made one at some point!!! Excited with my idea (this may have already been done, but I haven't seen it) I got right to work and Voila!!
This was the outcome of what I thought was one of my grandest of grand ideas!!
Hee Hee~!

A Weave Card
After Maggie saw the card on my blog, she asked if I would mind doing a tutorial on how I made a weaved card. Without Thinking it over or considering the fact that I have never done this before, I agreed, silly me, which brings us to where we are now!!! Hope you all like it!

A Weave Card Tutorial by LORi BOYD

Supplies you will need:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Provo Craft Cuttlebug Machine
1 to 2 Cuttlebug Folders
of your choice
Card stock or Designer Paper
Colors of your choice. Length depends on the size of card you want.
Quality is important to me so I use Stampin' Up!

Paper Cutter
For nice long neat, even cuts
Scotch Tape
Snail Adhesive
Stampin' Dimensionals
Sizzix Bigz Top Note Die

(or any other tool that would allow you to make a frame for your woven art)

Stamp Set or Embellishments
of your choice

To begin, cut your card stock into 1/4" wide strips.
The length is up to you. I cut mine 8" long.

Start your weave by lining up all the strips of one color of card stock or designer paper.

Next, alternate colors and weave. Up and over, down and under.

Continue...
Keep going...

Until it is as big as you want it to be. Push the strips of paper together as tight as you desire, then place a few pieces of scotch tape on the back to hold in place.
Then, Cut off the excess with your paper cutter.

Neat, huh!?!?!
Now, it's ready to emboss, using the Cuttlebug Folder of your choice.
Simply run through your Cuttlebug machine.

Now, you are ready to assemble your card.

I used Sizzix Bigz Top Note from Stampin' Up! for my frame.
And YES!! These do work with the Cuttlebug!! Yipee!
Here is the sandwich you will need: Plate B, Die(facing upwards), Card Stock & Plate B
Works Perfectly!!!
Using your Snail Adhesive, adhere your woven art piece to a pre-cut and pre-folded piece of card stock(your card base). Then, affix your frame (can be a circle, scallop, square, etc) with Stampin' Dimensionals over the edges to hide the mess! And you are now ready to embellish!!!
Tah-Dah!!! I decided to embellish my card using the Dreams de Jour Stamp Set from SU!
I heat embossed the sentiment and the butterflies with black embossing powder, then adhered them using Stampin' Dimensionals. And topped it all off with a little loose sponging effect using Versamark.
I hope I have offered a bit of inspiration!

Now, for the fun part!!
I am super excited to see your versions of my tutorial. So, go start weavin'!!

Then come back here and show off your masterpieces!! And let me know what you think of my first ever tutorial!!!

I will draw a winning card or project next Saturday. The winner will receive a custom made personalized small By LORi Designs Plate and $5 off your next Stampin' Up! order through ME!!

Update:
This is so exciting and your comments have made me so happy, that...I have decided to award
3 - 2nd place winning cards as well, each of the 3 winners will also receive $5 off their next Stampin' Up! purchase through me!! So there you go more chances to win!! NOW run to your supplies, it's Cuttlebug Time!!!!

oh I need more hours in the day!! I have done weaving before (even done it with a class of 30 6 year olds - which is probably an experience better forgotten) but not for a long time.

I am so going to have a go at this.
Your tutorial is great and your finished card is just beautiful.

This is fantastic! I've seen this done before and have even tried. However, I lack the patience for it. Can you believe I'm saying that???? I craft! I HAVE patience. But to weave strips of paper....... You make it look easy and fear not, I WILL give it a try!

Wow what a fun way to use up some scraps of paper!!! I will have to give this a try. I AM SO EXCITED to find out that the Big Top Note from SU will work in the CB. I had tried to find out about this from someone but they didnt seem to know!! I am so desiring this die now!!

You did awesome on that tutorial. I saw it on your blog earlier too and wondered how you did that!! Now I know :) I'm sooo going to try it.

Your little tip about the Cuttlebug taking the Bigz dies came JUST in time. I'm off to Jo-Anns with 2 50% off coupons in search for another die or 2 and I always pass those by assuming they don't work. WHOO HOO! ;)

I am so new to this site, I posted the wrong one first.

Here is my weave card:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_317kdvnbEKo/SXtmWoNgGPI/AAAAAAAAA1Y/axJfxkoiECg/s1600-h/Circle+of+Love+(Small).jpg

I punched out the circles and then put my weave behind it and used the punched out circles back in the hole.

I think your tutorial was great and what a beautiful card.

I think this is soooooooo cool. I did some weaving on a scrapbook page once and I was very pleased with the result. But weaving with smaller strips and using it on a card makes it look totally different. Ideas are already floating through my head. I have tons of scraps. I'll give it a go.

How fun is this... I loved it..

Ziggyeor said...

ok it looks good but was a pain in the ya know! I think next time I'll remember to take a cardstock and mark it off at 1/4 inch and then cut the strip to that point that way I've only got 2 colors to weave and keep in place and have something to push against to keep it all tight!

But I got it done and the card is cool and I don't know who to give it too LOL.

Fab tutorial and great idea. I have finally got round to playing...a bit slow this week.
