Luv Bug Weekend - Treat Tin

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our Luv Bug weekend....

my name is Amber and I'm one of the new Design Team members here at Cuttlebug Challenge.

How are you enjoying the Luv Bug Weekend?

Hopefully you've already came away with plenty of new uses for your Cuttlebug.

My tutorial is to show you how I used my Cuttlebug to create Valentine Treat Tins.
Now, to start all you need is a treat tin of some sort.

Next pick a pretty paper that you want to use.
Now take the base of your tin and measure how tall the paper will have to be to fit from bottom to the lid (with the lid on).
That away your lid will fit down to the top of the paper. It doesn't matter how long you leave the paper because you can trim excess when you wrap your paper around the tin.
Take your tin and use it as your template, simply trace it and you'll have the cover for your lid.

Next I picked which Cuttlebug folder I wanted to use for embossing my paper.

I chose D'vine Swirls. I then ran both pieces of paper thru my Cuttlebug.

I decided to make my tin a container for doggie treats, because even doggies need to feel special on Valentine's Day:) So I needed to make the appropriate tag for the tin. I used my Cricut and the Paper Pups cartridge to cut out a puppy paw.

Then picked a coordinating paper to go with my tin. I then layed one of my Spellbinders Nestabilities over my puppy paw to decide how big my tag needed to.

These are now my pieces embossed and ready to put together.

I suggest using your hot glue gun to glue your paper to the tin.
Now, pick the treat you want to fill your tin with. Mine contains mini honey doggie bones for my Valentine Sweeties. Pick some cute ribbon and tie a big bow and tie your tag to the bow...taadaa - a beautiful tin.

Now for a quick altered tin, I repeated all of my steps and embossed my top (which I cut out with the Nestabilities) and my paper strip with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug Folder.

I used the inverted side of the dots, and filled each one with a little glue. Then I dusted each dot with Doodlebug Crushed Velvet Flock in white, it works just like glitter. When it had dried I used a paint brush to get rid of the excess.

I then tied 2 pieces of ribbon around the paper on the tin lid and stacked 3 Prima flowers together and used a pearl pin to stick it thru my knotted ribbon. Now I have a velvet tin made with a Cuttlebug! Who Knew?

And here are my 2 tins together.

Now I have some blog candy to give away.

Follow this link and look at my other trendy treat bag I made with the Cuttlebug, leave me a comment and I'll randomly pick a winner on Monday.

If you already left a comment during the blog hop, leave another to double your chances of winning:)

Luv Bug Weekend - Sally's Valentine's Pennant from Stampin' Up!

Welcome To Our Guest Designer Sally Keller!

We are happy to have her with us :)

Hi everyone!!
My name is Sally Keller, and I am addicted to crafting!! I have four children that I homeschool and a husband aka Mr Gorgeous, to whom I am terribly addicted! And I love love love crafting! I am on several creative teams, including the digital scrapbooking site, Oscraps, and the e-magazine, Bella Scraps. I am also soo blessed to be a Stampin' Up! Check out my latest crazy life happenings at my BLOG!

I am delighted to share with you my latest project I have created using mainly new fun schtuff from Stampin' Up! - a LOVE pennant using the Big Shot and Pennant die! yay! Here is the process I used to create this fun decoration!! (everything mentioned can be obtained from Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted)

First, I took 12x12 Bella Rose decorative paper and cut two inches off and folded it to create a 5x12 strip of folded paper. Normally when using this Pennant die, you want to fold your 12x12 paper in half to create a 6x12 sheet, but I knew I wouldn't use all of the flowers that are cut. And I love this paper, so I wanted to save some for other projects. After folding the paper, I placed the fold right at the end of the pattern of the pennant...not the edge of the die.

Second, I used the "big shot sandwich" technique. This means I took each part and made a "sandwich" to put through the big shot. The order from bottom to top was this: first extended cutting pad, Pennant die, folded paper, second extended cutting pad. I fed it through the die cut machine with the help of my 6yo turning the crank. I did this with all four sheets to create my pennants.

Third, I saved some of the leftover scraps to punch some hearts. And I used the smaller cut pennants and some Top Note die cuts I had left over from a project we did last week (see my BLOG for that sweet project which is featured today in the BLOG HOP!!) and I added them to the pennants.

Fourth, I decided there needed to be some chipboard along with the chipboard letters. (the O and E are Basic Grey Two scoops sticker chipboard letters...i'm out of Es from my SU! chipboard letters!! heehee). So I used our NEW On Board So Tweet owl and birdie to embellish. I inked them with brown chalk ink (colorbox) and then added Stickles to them...a girl has to have her pink glitter!!!

Fifth, I am a scrapbooker at heart, so I had to use a pic of each child on each pennant! (good thing I have four children!! heehee) To do this, I used my computer to print pics from our Christmas photo shoot. I used a TaylorMade designs action (Pale Comparison from her Bliss in Action set at Oscraps) to get a dreamy quality on my pics.

Then, I printed them two at a time on a 4x6 photo paper.

I used the Sizzlets Hearts dies to cut our their sweet faces. I just placed the dies on the pics, and used the sandwich method (using the multipurpose platform this time), and voila...little hearts with my children’s faces on them!!

Here is a close up of my pennant which is now hanging in my entryway with other pieces of art I have created...I told you I was addicted!! :)

Thank you for letting me share my creativity with you today! Enjoy this weekend full of FUN and inspiration. And if there is anything here you CANNOT live without, feel free to order directly from my web site : Sally's Angelworks SU! site.
And thank you, Maggie, for having me here today!

Luv Bug Weekend: Garland Decor

Hi Everyone!! Thanks so much for coming back today! Christine Penaflor and I (Cassie Larson) are going to show you some banners that you can easily create to decorate your home.

{heart} YOU!

Here is my finished banner. I've really been enamoured with the phrase {heart} you lately. Here's how I did it:

I sketched out my own heart design. The shape of my heart was inspired by a card our very own Senior DT Member Eva Dobilas did a week or so ago. I just loved it! Once I had it like I wanted, I trimmed it out and then used it as a template for my final heart.

Here's a close-up of my finished heart. Let's look at the main rose image first. I stamped it and then really wanted the blossom to stand out.

I stamped and trimmed out the blossom portion of my image. (I forgot to photo these steps so I am going to show you on the first one I tried (stamped on old dictionary page) but then decided I didn't like the look.)

I ran it through my Cuttlebug machine using my Swiss Dots folder. Your stacking sandwish should be (from the bottom up) A plate, B plate, folder, B plate. I know many of you just got the Cuttlebug!

To draw out the texture, I used a sponge dauber and my darkest color of ink and lightly went over my blossom to highlight the dots. I also sponged some along the edges of the blossom.

Pop the blossom up using dimensionals. The next photo shows how I stamped my tags which was the same method for the heart. Use a variety of images and shades of ink and create a collage with your stamps. Lining the tags up creates less work as you can do all of them at one time.

Add decorative brads and the glittered chipboard letters. I use a clear, lined ruler to aid in lining them up evenly.

The edges of my heart and bottom of my tags are decorated with cupcake liners.

To get the edging, fold the cupcake liner in half 3 times so that it looks like the photo below. Then trim off the middle section.

Cut the liner all the way across so you have one long strip.

Use scissors to cut small slits along the edge of the liner. Doing so will allow you to take a circular shape and straighten it out. I ran my adhesive all along the edge of my heart. Because the cupcake liner is already fluted, it crinkles up fairly easy. Continue going along the entire side of the heart.
Here are close up shots of the letter tags.

And one final look at the banner.

LOVE
Next up is Christine's banner. She is on the Senior Design Team and so I was going to feature her banner first. But then I got the photos and decided that I didn't want to follow her act! LOL!
Be prepared to be stunned!!

1. Cut four 5 1/2" x 9" pieces of chipboard. Using a heart-shaped die cut as a template, trace onto the bottom portion of the chipboard pieces. Cut away traced portions to create pennant shapes (see photo 1).

2. Adhere glittered polka dot papers to chipboard pennant bases and trim away excess (see photo 2).

3. Cut four 5 1/2" x 3" pieces of patterened paper with the border along the top portion of the paper. Adhere to the top of the chipboard pennant bases (see photo 3).

4. Die cut four Spellbinders labels from chipboard and emboss these using the Cuttlebug mini heart embossing folder from the Love Language set. Adhere embossed labels to light blue cardstock and trim a border around each of them (see photo 4).

5. Die cut four hearts from patterned paper using the Cuttlebug heart die from the Textile Hearts set. Emboss hearts using the Cuttlebug D'Vine Swirl embossing folder (see photo 5).

6. Use a silver metallic pen to ink a border around the hearts. Adhere hearts to the center of the embossed labels. Adhere glittered chipboard letters on top of each embossed heart and embellish with Prima crystal swirls. (see photo 6).

7. Cut die cut felt pieces in half and adhere to the pennant base as shown. Adhere embellished label pieces to the pennant base as shown. Adhere light blue cardstock to the bottom of the pennant and trim away excess to created a border along the bottom of it (see photo 7).

8. Using a sewing machine, stitch a border around the edges of the pennant. Using a border punch, create decorative strips and trim them into 1/2" strips. Adhere decorative strips to the sides of each pennant. Cut apart eight pom poms from trim and adhere one pom pom onto each point of the pennants (see photo 8).

9. Using a Crop-a-dile, punch holes on the top corners of the pennant bases. Thread cord through holes and knot on the back. Add jeweled brads to secure the cords. For the corners at each end of the banner, thread cord through the loop of the brad and knot to complete (see photo 9).

One more final look at Christine's banner. Isn't it just GORGEOUS!!

Don't forget that Christine has a wonderful blog candy prize on her blog for our Luv Bug Event. It's pictured below. A random winner will be drawn from all those who email Christine the complete quote from the Sweets for My Sweet blog hop from Friday. You have until Sunday to enter so if you haven't taken that blog hop....well, get hoppin'!! LOL!!
And be sure to leave Christine some love on her blog and let her know what a fabulous job she did on her banner!!

Ching Tan is also on the Senior Design Team for the Cuttlebug Challenge and she also has a wonderful banner to share with you for inspiration! Be sure to stop by her blog and let her know how gorgeous you think her banner is too!
