Thanksgiving showcase tutorial with a linking party!

Hello!  I'm so excited. I was asked to share something about Thanksgiving so I chose this DIY decor project. 

 

 

 

I am all about decorating on a budget without things looking cheap.  That's where the thrift store and some decoupage come in handy.  I purchased this platter at the local thrift store for under $5.  I really like it for Thanksgiving/fall because of the corn husks etched in it.

 

 

I wanted the platter to be a clear orange so I mixed 2 tbsp. of decoupage with one drop of red and three drops of yellow food coloring.  I painted the mixture onto the bottom of the platter.

 

 

 

I was a little nervous at first because it went on the color of orange frosting.

 

 

 

But "thank" fully it dried the color I wanted -- clear orange.  I purchased some split peas in the bulk section of our local grocery store and placed the apples on top.

 

 

 

Then I filled this little vase thingy with split peas.  You can get this type of vase at thrift stores for under $2.

 

 

 

One home staging tip that I'm going to give you today is to tie rooms in with each other.  That's why I did this next project, to go with this R that is on my mantle -- which you can see from the dining room (tutorial here).

 

 

 

I had left over [dollar store] leaves from the project so I started gluing them together...

...and ended with this, which I placed in the middle of the dining table.

 

 

 

I filled the vase with green and yellow split peas and placed candles all around and one inside the vase.

And now the kitchen and dining areas tie into each other, as well as the living room to the left of the dining.

 

And it all cost less than $10 because I used stuff I already had and a little something from the thrift store.
