Brink Magazine with a linking party!

With so many print magazines out of circulation, Online magazines are thriving. What makes online magazine so successful? According to Brink Magazine it’s easier to react to trend quickly as their Editorial calendars are not far out of 6 months as it is the standard, only a month or two that gives them more leeway to be able to move things around and affect changes, to make the magazine as successful as can be. I had the pleasure to meet Kyle the Editor in Chief last night as we discuss the magazine and the upcoming Fashion show challenge.
I’ve had the privilege for the past year to work with Candy Rosenberg on Scrap n Art, October is going to be my last month as an editor on the magazine.
What are your favorite online magazines?

Tips and trick for using a digital template tutorial!

Fort Desoto Beach

 me2

Hi, I’m Maggie Lamarre, My family and I have been going to Fort Desoto for years it's one of those not quite best kept secret the locals knows, it's not as crowded as Daytona beach  or Cocoa beach on a regular basis.

What is a digital template?

A digital template can be described as a sketch that is interactive, they are dimensional, are in layers that can be used in any graphic programs.

With templates you get to reorganized the layers or remove them as you see fit, templates allows you to create projects very quickly, as the design scheme is already formatted for your use.

Sketches are flat file blueprints with no interactive layers. Both sketches and templates serve the function of helping you design  page, by giving you specific dimensions for photos, papers, and embellishments. In traditional scrapbooking Making Memories, Anna Griffin to name a few have created albums containing pages that are almost done with the papers, embellishments placed on the page, templates are similar but you get to changed them as you see fit.

What makes template better?

Using a template allows you to move  layers, delete, adding more embellishments. You can go a step further by combining other elements from another templates together to achieve a desired design.

I didn't like the flowers on the template for a beach layout, instead I use the pleated background from this template as an embellishment by reducing the size, deleting the other layers as seen below.

I wanted to add more to the flourish, I combined the smaller flourish from the the top and the bottom together to create a fuller embellishment on the bottom.

When using a digital template, you can make it look realistic by paying attention to details, for instance on the title below the letters sit right above the chipboard, realistically if you were to be adhering the letters there will be a noticeable gap. Many times when you apply a rubon over a chipboard there will be a slight separation that always happen to me. I mimic the same by cutting the title in two, then using a soft brush I created a slight shadow under to show where it would have created a gap on the chipboard below.

Here's the finish layout!

Supply list:

Digital Kit: Viva Artistry "Gidget's Beach"; "Flourish Template"

I would love  for you to share your tips and tricks on how templates have help in your creations.

Have fun Create your Art!

Faux Tiffany stained glass tutorial

Recreating the look of Tiffany's stained glass window is a cinch with a few scrapbooking supplies and a recycling  kitchen door.

Welcome to

1Rendezvousmonday

me2

Hello I’m Maggie with you to share a very fun tutorial on how to recycle a kitchen door cabinet with just a few products into an amazing faux stained glass a la Tiffany :)

the best part is you don’t have to worry about flying pieces of tiles or cutting them the wrong way.

Supplies:

Tools: Lea France “Photo Collage: Compass Stencil”; Embellishments: Want2scrap "Light green rhinestone"; Paints: Krylon"Pink, Black"; Jacquard: "Pearl Ex powdered pigments series1 and 2, colours of your choice; Misc:Kitchen door cabinet;brush, butterfly, lace,Triple thick sealant.

Let's begin!

  • Clean the kitchen cabinet door with a damp paper towel, dry. Spray paint the door black let dry, place the Lea France "Photo Collage stencil" on the door, use a fluid motion to spray paint the door with pink spray, remove stencil, let dry.

  • Using your brush and the pearl ex colour of your choice fill in the quadrants inside the stencil,  let dry.

  • Remove the stencil using a smaller brush, remove any excess pearl ex, that have seeped under the stencil.

  • Once all the quadrants have been filled and dry, add the Want2scrap rhinestone, seal the kitchen door by using  Triple thick sealant, let dry.
  • Add butterfly embellishment to the center of the stencils, add lace to the side of the door.

Voila done, very easy to recreate the stained glass effect! Please let me know if you have any questions?

Have a fabulous week, don’t forget our linking party going on this week

Maggie

Jewelry making using artist trading card sheets

Creating jewelry to match any outfit is incredibly easy and quite rewarding. It is even more exciting when you can use readily available materials.

Welcome to

 2FabulousFriday copy copy

I was so inspired by these beautiful ATC sheets from TJ Designs by Tweety Jill that I decided to create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. All it took was the ATC sheets from TJ Designs by Tweety Jill and scrapbooking tools!

1. Insert the faux suede necklace onto the bezel as seen below.

Add jump rings onto the bezel loop. Insert the stars onto the jump rings as seen below.

2. To create the template for the frame, take a scrap piece of paper and lay it on top of the frame. Run your fingers over the paper to create an indentation on the paper. The indentation will serve as your cutting line for the template. Once cut, insert the template onto the frame, as seen below, to make sure it fits correctly before cutting the actual ATC sheet.

4. Using the template as a guide, cut the TJ Designs ATC sheet. Make sure to center the template on the flower.

5. Use laminate (Glossy Accents) to adhere the ATC sheet onto the bezel frame. Add Ranger Stickles onto the center of each flower petal. Let dry. Fill the frame with Glossy Accents. Add five pearls. Let dry for one hour.

6. Once the frame is dry, add frame onto the jump ring with the stars. Your project is complete. Here is another look at the finished necklace.

Supply List:

Paper: TJ Designs by Tweety Jill "Art Cards Collage Pack: Drawn from Nature Flower"; Stamps: TJ Designs by TweetyJill "Butterflies & Nature's Wonders"; Paint: Ranger "Stickles: Vintage Photo"; Laminate: Ranger "Glossy Accents"; Embellishments: Want2Scrap "Pearls: White 72 Count Self Adhesive"; Hardware: Blue Moon "Faux Suede Necklace"; Bezels, Frames & Filigree: Hirschberg Schutz & Co; Misc: Bent nose pliers, jump rings, round nose pliers

Have a fabulous week,

Maggie
